ORCID (Open Researcher & Contributor ID) is a registry of unique identifiers for researchers and scholars that is open, non-profit, transparent, mobile and community-based. The ORCID Registry is available free of charge to individuals. You can obtain an ORCID iD, manage your record of activity and search others in the Registry. It takes less than a minute to register and claim your iD. Although it may be useful to build out your ORCID profile by adding your publications, it is not necessary to do so.
You may register for an ORCID identifier at http://orcid.org. You only need to enter your name and email address and create a password. You do not need an official affiliation and there is no set of requirements to qualify as a researcher.
