How to Share an EndNote Library

Sharing an EndNote Library with a colleague is a fairly straightforward process.

First, you need to save your library as a compressed library (.enlx). Select File - Compressed Library.

Next, make sure you select "Create," "with File Attachments," and either "All References in Library," "Selected Reference(s)," or "All References in Group/Group Set" - this depends on what you wish to send to your colleague." Then click "Next."

****NOTE: If you wish to send the EndNote Library via email, you will need to select "Create & E-mail" rather than just "Create."

Then, you will select where to save the compressed library. If you plan to use a file sharing service, such as Box, it is best to save the compressed library there.

After the compressed library has been created, you can share it with your colleagues. Please note, you will not be able to attach a compressed library to an email through Outlook. If you want to share via email, you will need to select "Create & E-mail" when you create your compressed library.
